Holiday Reflections
I hope everyone enjoyed a joyful, safe and meaningful Christmas season and welcomed the New Year in safely.
Many Posts hosted wonderful some great holiday gatherings and parties for their members and families, and it was heartwarming to see the camaraderie and celebration across the district.
If your Post has Christmas photos you would like featured on the District website, please email them to: commander@deptkydistrict4.org
As we kick off the beginning of another new year, I hope that everyone in ALL 4 families of The American Legion within our District are off to a great new start. As we face the many task before us this year let us encourage all New and Senior members of our Post to get more involved in our Post Activities.
Post Visitations
As your District Commander I have visited nearly every Post within our District and I see the same issue across the District my Post included. We put out a lot of good vital information about for our Post, but getting our members to attend our General Membership Meetings have become a tiresome and failing task. We need to find ways to get our current members more involved in our General Membership meetings and Post Activities. Most Post throughout our District have only 0.5% to 4% of our membership attending these meetings. Commanders we need to try and find a way to increase these numbers to have more participation in our local Post.
Suggestions to increase Membership Participation at Meetings
1. Offer a Free Meal before or at the End of the Monthly General Membership meeting.
2. Offer a 50 – 50 Drawing at each meeting to those who attended only.
3. Give certificates regularly to members for various reasons, i.e. Volunteer Appreciation Certificate, Member of the Month Award, and my Favorite Membership Recruitment recognition Award.
4. This one I found on National: website being used by many larger Post up North and West of the Country.
Many members may not be able to attend for various reasons some may include. Mobility, Health, Work, Family care. You might want to consider offering Virtual Meeting Conferencing for those individuals.
