Consolidated Post Reports (CPR)
Post Commanders and Post Adjutants it’s time once again to start working on our CPR’s.
Consolidated Post Reports are due 1 May 2026 or before.
When The American Legion national commander testifies before Congress, the Consolidated Post Report (CPR) data is used to provide numerical data of what the collective American Legion is doing.
The American Legion’s Consolidated Post Report (CPR) was established nearly 40 years ago to assist departments in the documentation of activities that a specific post completed during the 12-month (June 1 through May 31) reporting period.
When The American Legion national commander testifies before Congress, the Consolidated Post Report (CPR) data is used to provide numerical data of what the collective American Legion is doing. We report the hours, dollars and numbers of participants to show in quantifiable ways how our organization lives up to its motto of Veterans Strengthening America.
Leadership should impress upon posts that they need to report their accomplishments in their community. For 2025-26, only about 60.83% of our more than 12,200 local posts submitted reports for the state of KY.
Congressional Charter Compliance
- Mandatory Reporting: The American Legion operates under a federal charter that requires it to submit an annual report to Congress regarding its activities.
- Evidence of Impact: The CPR provides the necessary data to show Congress, in quantifiable ways, how the organization lives up to its mission of “Veterans Strengthening America”.
- Quantifying “Good”: The report tracks specific metrics, such as millions of dollars raised, thousands of volunteer hours, funeral honors provided, and youth programs sponsored (e.g., Boys State, Oratorical Contest).
- Showcasing “Be the One”: It documents initiatives like “Buddy Checks” (over 3,700 reported in 2021-22), which are crucial for suicide prevention.
- Small Post Recognition: The report is not just for large posts; it is vital for small- and medium-sized posts to share their local successes, showing that every post contributes to the collective story.
- Legislative Strength: When the National Commander testifies on Capitol Hill on behalf of veterans, they use the data compiled from the CPR to support their arguments.
- “Strength in Numbers”: The report transforms individual local efforts into a powerful, collective narrative.
- Barometer of Effectiveness: It serves as a “report card” for individual posts, helping them determine if they are fulfilling the vision of the organization’s founders.
- Post Excellence Award: 100% reporting is one of the four requirements to achieve the Post Excellence Award.
- Awards Verification: The data in the CPR is used to apply for and verify awards at the National Convention.
- 100% Reporting Goal: National commanders frequently set a goal of 100% reporting to maximize the visibility of the Legion’s work
Every post is doing something in their community. It is important that the post leadership report what they are doing to show our impact. The post may fill out a CPR by using the CPR form on mylegion.org. It has the capability to keep a running total and save the data until you’re ready to submit.
